Generations Custom Homes is a custom home builder on Mount Desert Island. We build new homes, remodel older ones and add on in Bar Harbor, Mount Desert, Northeast Harbor, Southwest Harbor, Seal Harbor and Tremont. Our shop is in Ellsworth and we have been building since 2002.

Who we build for on the island

Island homes are often a family's year-round house, a second home or a place that has been in the family for generations. Some owners want a new custom home on a lot they already own. Others have an older house that needs insulation, new windows and a modern heating system. Both start the same way, with a conversation about how you live and what the site allows.

Building for coastal weather

Head of the Island House: a custom home near the head of Mount Desert Island, started in late summer.
Classic House on MDI: a top-to-bottom renovation of a home built in 1920, with insulation added where there was none, new windows and doors, a ducted heating and cooling system, new siding and trim.
Old Bar Harbor House: a complete renovation of a 1931 coastal home, with a new kitchen, new bathrooms, a rebuilt garage and a new deck.

Remodels, additions and outdoor work

Many island projects are not new builds. We remodel kitchens and bathrooms, add rooms, build decks and garages, and do site work such as clearing, footings and utility digging.
